Online Midwifery Education Curriculum
This program will be composed of about 50 online modules designed for direct entry by high school graduates in developing countries. Students complete the program over a three year period and attain midwifery certification based on the recommendations of the International Confederation of Midwives. This program can be completed in 2 years if courses are taken continuously. On-site and online learning with interactive models, hands on experience and supplemental video presentations is also provided. Each module will have a test to be completed before moving on to the next level of training. Regional centers will provide the clinical experience. Candidates need to attend 100 deliveries. At the completion of the entire course there will be a comprehensive exam. The program will be offered initially in English and Spanish, but will eventually include French, Swahili and Arabic.
This program can also benefit Traditional Birth Attendants and village health team members in topics related to normal and abnormal pregnancy including basic emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC).
Topics such as identifying high risk pregnancies early and making appropriate referrals to healthcare facilities capable of BEmONC saves lives. Educational materials used in this program include Home Based Life Saving Skills (HBLSS) training, the Helping Babies Breathe Program and Neonatal Resuscitation Program NRP.
Individuals who complete this program are eligible for additional training in Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) Training. Use of priority essential medications for mothers and newborns is included in this program.
All of these program will be available online free of charge to developing countries on our website on our resource page under educational resources.
Pico Projectors with data storage devices will be used for teaching these courses when Internet and electricity is not available.

PRE-VENT Kits for Mothers and Newborns Containing Priority Essential Medications
for Saving Lives at Birth
This program at poor resource, community health centers saves lives by making available medications recommended by WHO to save lives at birth.
Postpartum hemorrhage, infections, hypertensive disease in pregnancy and prematurity can be treated with lifesaving medications to save the life of the mother and baby. These conditions account for over 90% of maternal deaths. Sepsis, pneumonia and diarrhea are specifically targeted for the newborn with these medications. Unfortunately many rural communities in developing countries still don’t have access to these effective and inexpensive medications that are widely used in developed countries.
These grab and go kits are being provided to first responders to manage obstetrical emergencies for home births as well.
