We save lives by promoting maternal and
newborn health services in developing
countries through workforce training
and access to priority essential medications.

Who We Are

PRE-VENT is a non-profit, 501 (C) 3 charitable organization that advances the education of skilled birth attendants and community health workers and promotes preventive health measures among the vulnerable and poor populations. We are trained healthcare providers and administrators with expertise in OB/GYN, midwifery, nurse practitioner, pediatrics, public health, newborn care nursing, infectious diseases and management.

What We Do

We emphasize access to prenatal care and safe facility childbirth where there is availability of skilled birth attendants and priority essential medications for mothers and newborns. Our programs are built around distinct community needs with special attention to cultural norms while advancing evidence based, scientific breakthroughs and innovations.

Why It Is Important

In developing countries, a woman dies every minute during unattended or complicated childbirth. Pregnancy is the biggest killer of women ages 15 to 19 in the developing world. In sub-Saharan African 1 in 22 women is likely to die in childbirth (it is 1 in 7300 in developed countries).

For every woman who dies in childbirth, 20 more suffer from debilitating complications such as Obstetrical Fistulas. Ninety-eight percent of maternal deaths are preventable through access to prenatal care, a skilled birth attendant and availability of obstetrical emergency services.

3.2 Million annual stillbirths are unaccounted for in vital statistics that affect policy and funding.

Family planning is the most effective and inexpensive means of averting maternal and child mortality. Family planning prevents 300,000 pediatric AIDS cases annually by preventing the unintended transmission of HIV from mother to child. Child spacing is vital for the health of the mother and the viability of the whole family.
